About Gordons Bay….
Gordons Bay is a small harbour town in the Western Cape province of South Africa. It is situated on the north-eastern corner of False Bay, about 50 km from Cape Town. One of the features that makes Gordons Bay unique is that it boasts two harbours – both lively and interesting, and each with it’s own character.
The “old harbour” is the original working harbour. It is still used for fishing and the maintenance and mooring of boats and yachts. This harbour defines the older part of Gordons Bay, known as the old village. It is home to the Gordon’s Bay Yacht Club, National Sea Rescue and the South African Navy. It was the SA Navy, in 1987, who granted permission that the anchor sign could also be the, now familiar, emblem of Gordon’s Bay.
The old harbour is also host to the Thirsty Oyster Tavern, a lively spot where good food and great live music can be enjoyed, and the Harbour Lights restaurant which has a popular fish and chip take away section.
The “new harbor” is in Harbour Island, an exclusive marina development that is home to many charter boards and yachts. This harbour is home to the Gordon’s Bay Boat Angling Club. Berties Moorings restaurant and pub is the place to be at the new harbour – with its waterfront deck its the perfect spot to enjoy a sun-downer, looking out towards Table Mountain. There is also an Ocean Basket and Antonio’s Pizza Place.
