Hermanus Whale Festival
This weekend is the annual Hermanus Whale Festival. This festival is held in honour of the magnificent Southern Right Whales. These amazing creatures migrate along our coastline each year between June and November.
The Hermanus Whale Festival started 25 years ago. Residents and visitors celebrate the whales and other marine wildlife with ocean-themed activities and exhibitions.
The festival runs from the 30th of September till the 2nd of October 2016. It is the only enviro-arts festival in South Africa, “putting the creatures of the deep on stage and under the spotlight alongside top performers and musicians”.
The Whales are always the star performers at the festival and this year they will be joined on land by great food, quality crafters, great sport events, a 3 day coaching clinic, kids entertainment, a Music stage with over 20 artists performing over the festival, Marine ECO Village and Vintage Car Show.
Gordons Bay – Gateway to the Whale Route
The coastal town of Hermanus is a scenic 70km drive up the coast from Gordons Bay – Gordons Bay itself is known as the “Gateway to the Whale Route“. Many visitors flock each year to the area to watch the whales in their unique natural environment, and at the same time taken in other attractions that the Western Cape has to offer.
